The world cup is coming in just a few days time... on 10th June with first match: Germany vs Costa Rica....

Brazil again are the favourites to win the competition.. they have already won it 5 times and some ppl are starting to get sick of them always winning the competition.. Italy and the hosts, Germany, have eached won 3 times, Argentina twice and France and England have each won once.. Surprisingly, top teams like Holland, Portugal and Spain have not yet won the competition.. With players like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul, they will once again be fighting for the world cup.....

It is not always the big teams tt are in the limelight.. Weaker teams and debutants can also put up some surprise performances as past World Cups have shown... And with so many new teams this time time round, shocks are expected.. African teams like Ivory Coast, Angola, Ghana and Togo may be making their first ever World Cup appearance but can they repeat what happened 4 yrs ago at Japan/Korea??? tt time, defending champions, France, faced Senegal in the opening match.. Nobody gave Senegal any hope of winning, but in the end, France was defeated 0-1 by their African opponents.. Subsequently, they were eliminated only after the first round...

The following four teams are those tt i predict will get into the semi-finals:

Brazil: With so much talent in players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Robinho, Roberto Carlos and Cafu, nobody can doubt their ability in football and going past the first round should be small cake for them as they face Croatia, Australia, and Japan during their group stages....

England: They have good players in every department... in goal, they have Paul Robinson.. in defence they have Rio, Sol and Terry.. in midfield, they have Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard and on attack, Rooney, Walcott and Owen... All they have to do is to hope that Rooney can recovetr in time and tt 17 yr old Theo Walcott can become the next Pele...

Germany: Playing at home, they will have a high advantage as the Germans are used to the weather here and they have a huge number of home fans cheering them on...

Portugal: They have the talent and should go past the group stages easily and if they are able to repeat their form of Euro 2004, they should be able to go far in the competition and give their old captain, Luis Figo, one last chance of winning the prestigious tournament...

Who will lift the World Cup in Germany???? This we will find out on 10 July, 2am (Singapore time) at Berlin, Germany.....
